It has come full circle. Rachel is an awesome wedding photographer who hooked me up with her friend’s wedding two years ago down in Key West. We had never met, but meeting her and John while photographing there I somehow knew down the line I’d be hooking back up with them. Fast forward the clock to yesterday and it was now their turn. This time, not so much palm trees and flip-flops in Florida, but more cowboy boots and unicorn heads in Virginia.
The people, though, were equally as awesome.
There’s something about working with photographers that just brings out the life in rectangles. They know light, moments, color, and luckily Rachel and John really thought about it in planning their day. The one thing they weren’t expecting was thunderstorms and the day was off-and-on rain right up until ceremony time, and as if Rachel made a call to the Photo Gods, the skies parted and the light flooded the horse farm at Riverside on the Potomac outside of Leesburg, Virginia. The barn was practically covered with awesome details Rachel made herself. I’ll never use the phrase “picture-perfect” but these guys made it easy. Throw in a 100 of their closest friends, family, and a posse of wedding photographers and you have a party. That posse of photographers poked and prodded me all night in good fun…it’s a rarity we actually get to attend a wedding without the camera, so I understand the torment. I would do the same to the poor wedding photographer if I weren’t working.
Rachel was absolutely gorgeous and we had such a rad time wandering the grounds making pictures. We chased light as it dipped in and out of the trees, charged a rainbow down the hill, and even had some horse encounters (real and masked). Nothing would really compare to seeing these two absolutely enjoy being with each other while either tearing up the dance floor or serenading each other with some Lumineers. I’m so blessed to have some awesome new friends who started out as wonderful clients. There really isn’t anything better.
Congrats Rachel and John – here’s to many more years of Siracha and Red Bull.
